NSEC is a St. Louis-based Nonprofit 501(c)(3) Missouri Organization Founded in 1983 that Provides Free Employment and Training Services to Help Those Unemployed and Underserved Individuals 16 Years and Older Succeed and Achieve Self-Sufficiency.

Whether stocking a local pantry or rebuilding after disasters, effective outreach starts with listening. We share frameworks and tools for programs that meet people where they are and leave them strong.

Impact thrives when heart meets strategy. Dive into donor journeys, ethical storytelling, recurring-gift models, and creative events that keep the mission moving and supporters inspired.

Behind every milestone stand volunteers, mentors, medics, coders, cooks, each with a story worth sharing. Celebrate their win and discover ways to recruit, train, and retain passionate teammates.
Every initiative we launch is crafted to strengthen communities and steward resources responsibly. By sharing transparent insights and actionable guidance, we aim to multiply good work and spark collaboration across causes and continents.
Donations and Stewardship
We treat every donation, whether it’s a single coin in a collection jar or a seven-figure grant, with the same rigorous care. We make room for honest community dialogue, true people connections, and deeper trust between our team, our partners, and the community we serve.
Community Connection and History
Founded in 1983, Near Southside Community Coalition (NSEC) continues to serve the community, those in need with help for training and thank our faithful donors who support NSEC.
Sustainable change only happens when those most affected help themselves one step at a time.
Partnering with community businesses and sponsors, NSEC is able to reach the goals set by their board and executive director – doing the most good with impacting lives and help others achieve self-sufficiency for successive lives and communities.
Lifelong Service
Charity is not a single event; it’s a lifelong rhythm of empathy in action. We thank our community of the Near Southside of St. Louis, Missour for the continual nurture, mentorship pipelines and hands-on training that equip those in need.
We appreciate ALL our volunteers of today and the past. With their faith and commitment we grow and serve others.
We celebrate all the good NSEC has brought to our community and are hopeful of the future day by day and step by step in serving others.

Long-time advocate and NSEC Executive Director, The Reverend Ohala Ward is dedicated to linking resources with people who need them most. When she isn’t coordinating strategy, meeting with other key community leaders and partners, she is found helping job seekers find work, build resumes and learn new skills! Without a doubt, she is the voice of hope for tomorrow’s NSEC programs.
